ud83cudf93 International Studies Magnet Program Tour for Prospective Families (Grades K–5)

We invite families of prospective students entering Kindergarten through 5th grade to explore the vibrant world of our International Studies Magnet Program. This guided tour offers a firsthand look at how our school nurtures global learners from their very first day through the elementary years.

  • Informational Session Begin with an overview of our magnet philosophy, curriculum, and enrichment opportunities. Learn how students engage with world languages, global cultures, and international perspectives across all grade levels.
  • Classroom Visits Step into active learning environments across multiple grade levels to see how international studies come to life. From kindergarten play-based exploration to upper-grade project-based learning, you'll witness how global themes are integrated at every stage.
  • Campus Tour Explore our dynamic campus, including spaces for art, music, media, and physical education—all designed to support a rich, multicultural experience.
  • Q&A Session Conclude with an open forum where school leaders and magnet coordinators will answer your questions about curriculum, student life, application procedures, and more.

Language Proficiency Test for International Studies Magnet Program (Grades 2–5)

Students applying to the International Studies Magnet Program in grades 2 through 5 must demonstrate prior knowledge of the target language. There is no beginner-level instruction available at these grade levels, so language proficiency is a key requirement for admission.

Test Overview:

  • Scheduling Required: After submitting an application, families must schedule a language proficiency test appointment. Testing is conducted on-site at the school by a certified World Language teacher.
  • Passing Criteria: Students must achieve a minimum score of 75% to be considered eligible for the program.
  • Test Components: The assessment evaluates multiple areas of language proficiency:
  • Oral Communication: Conversational fluency and listening skills
  • Reading Comprehension: Understanding written texts
  • Vocabulary: Breadth and accuracy of word usage
  • Grammar: Sentence structure and grammatical correctness
  • Writing: Ability to express ideas clearly in written form

Students who meet the proficiency requirement and additioal eligibiolity criteria will be entered into the magnet program’s random selection process. Those who do not meet the criteria will not be eligible for placement in grades 2–5.
