INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (IS) FRENCH / ITALIAN / SPANISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY EXAM (students applying to the IS programs must be proficient in the language). 

REGARDING YOUR LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY EXAM AT ISPA 

Registration for the language proficiency exam (required if you are applying to one of the International Studies Programs—IS French, IS Italian, or IS Spanish) will be completed through the online Magnet Application.

Please adhere to the following instructions:

Only the student will be allowed in the building.
Parents, please drop off the student at the main door 15 to 30 minutes prior to the testing start time. 
Students must present their school id or photo id at the entrance.
No backpacks will be permitted, every material needed to take the test will be provided by ISPA. 
Students must turn off their phones during testing.
The test will last approximately one hour and thirty minutes to two hours. 
Students will call their parents when they are ready to be picked up.
Parents and guardians may pick up the students in front of the building.

Looking for a sneak peek into South Miami Senior High's campus, academics, student life, and Magnet program offerings? Join us for one of our tours! Campus tours are approximately 1 hour long, beginning promptly at 9:30 am. 

 Join us for a tour of Frank C. Martin K-8 Center!  Come and learn more about the IB Primary and Middle Years Programme.  Tours begin promptly at 9:00 AM and will be completed by 10:00 AM. Students are welcome to join us for the tour.  We will provide them with a tardy pass to school.

Language Proficiency Test for International Studies Magnet Program (Grades 2–5)

Students applying to the International Studies Magnet Program in grades 2 through 5 must demonstrate prior knowledge of the target language. There is no beginner-level instruction available at these grade levels, so language proficiency is a key requirement for admission.

Test Overview:

• Scheduling Required: After submitting an application, families must schedule a language proficiency test appointment. Testing is conducted on-site at the school by a certified World Language teacher.
• Passing Criteria: Students must achieve a minimum score of 75% to be considered eligible for the program.
• Test Components: The assessment evaluates multiple areas of language proficiency:
• Oral Communication: Conversational fluency and listening skills
• Reading Comprehension: Understanding written texts
• Vocabulary: Breadth and accuracy of word usage
• Grammar: Sentence structure and grammatical correctness
• Writing: Ability to express ideas clearly in written form

Students who meet the proficiency requirement and additioal eligibiolity criteria will be entered into the magnet program’s random selection process. Those who do not meet the criteria will not be eligible for placement in grades 2–5.
